Song Stories
Voyage
Written in Melbourne By Michael Roache, ND.
Voyage is a song about love, migration and the courage it takes to leave home in search of a new life. Written by Michael "Mick Dundee" Roache, it tells the story of his father Jack sailing from Ireland to Australia in the 1950s to be with the woman he loved. For many who have left one country to build a life in another, the song captures both the excitement of new beginnings and the heartbreak of leaving family behind.
To War
Written in Kalgoorlie 2017
Written after a visit to the National Anzac Centre in Albany, Western Australia, To War reflects on the human cost of conflict and the generations that bear its consequences. Inspired by Anzac Day commemorations and fears of growing international tensions, the song is a reminder that in every war, somebody's children are lost.
Angels at the Bottom of The Street
Written in Sydney 2022
Angels at the Bottom of the Street was written as a tribute to the innocent children and civilians caught in the tragedy of war. Inspired by conflicts in places such as Gaza and Ukraine, the song reflects on the human cost of violence and the resilience of those forced to endure it. At its heart, it is a call for compassion, justice and peace, and a reminder that behind every headline are ordinary people whose lives have been forever changed.

My Father's House
Written in Sydney 2025
My Father's House was inspired by the story of a Palestinian family I know personally.
At a Parramatta for Palestine event in 2025, Ihab shared memories of his family's home, a place filled with love, history and generations of family life. His story stayed with me long after the event had ended.
This song is about home, belonging and the grief of being separated from the place that shaped you. It was written for Ihab, his family, and for all those around the world who have been displaced from the homes they love.

Normal Lives
Written In Melbourne 2024
Normal Lives was written in the departure lounge of Melbourne Airport as the sun was setting over the runway.
News screens around the terminal were filled with images of war and destruction, while all around me, people were boarding flights, chatting with family, and simply getting on with their day. The contrast stayed with me.
The song reflects on the ordinary lives that continue behind every headline and reminds us that, wherever we live, the things that connect us are often far greater than the things that divide us.
